Our commitment
OAKS Oral Surgery intends this website to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard alone, magnify the page, use voice control, or turn animation off.
The same applies at the offices themselves. If you need an accommodation for a visit, a communication aid, an interpreter, help getting into the building or extra time, tell us when you book and we will arrange it.
02
The standard we work to
We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard most commonly referenced in United States accessibility practice, and it is the target this site is built and reviewed against.
We aim to meet it. We do not claim to have been certified against it, and section 04 explains why that distinction matters.
03
What has been built into this site
Accessibility work done so far includes:
- Semantic HTML structure. Real headings in order with a single level one heading per page, real lists, real landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, and a skip link that takes you straight to the main content.
- Full keyboard operation. Every link, button, form field and accordion can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone, in a logical order, with a visible focus indicator on the element you are on.
- Reduced motion support. The site respects the operating system setting for reduced motion. When it is on, the scroll reveals, the image drift and the drifting leaf animation are switched off and the content is shown in its final state.
- Colour contrast. Body text, headings and interface labels are set against the forest green and parchment palette at ratios chosen to meet the level AA thresholds, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
- Text alternatives. Photographs that carry meaning have alt text describing what is in them. Decorative rules, ornaments and background images are marked as decorative so a screen reader passes over them.
- Responsive, zoomable layouts. Pages reflow down to a small phone and support browser zoom and enlarged text without content being cut off or trapped in a horizontal scroll.
- Labelled forms. Every form field has a visible, programmatically associated label, and errors are described in text rather than by colour alone.

This is ongoing, not certified
No independent third party audit of this site has been carried out, and we do not claim one. Accessibility here is maintained by testing during development and by fixing what is reported to us.
Automated tools catch some issues and miss others. A site can pass every automated check and still be awkward to use with a screen reader. We treat conformance as something to keep working at, and we expect to find and fix problems over time.
If we become aware of a barrier we cannot fix quickly, we will say so and offer another way to get the same information or complete the same task, usually by phone.
05
Content we do not control
Parts of this site rely on third parties. The embedded map on the location pages is served by an outside mapping service, and its accessibility is determined by that provider rather than by us.
Wherever that is the case, the same information is available in plain text on the page. Every address, phone number and set of directions can be read and used without interacting with the map.
06
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to hear about it. A specific report is far more useful to us than a general one, so if you can, tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. Mentioning your browser and any assistive technology you use helps too.
Call Bakersfield on (661) 246-3750 or Valencia on (661) 383-2550 during office hours and our staff will take the details. You can also use the contact page on this site.
We will acknowledge your report and tell you what we intend to do about it. If the fix will take time, we will offer another way to get what you needed in the meantime.
07
If we do not get it right
Come back to us first. Most problems are quicker to solve directly, and a report that reaches the people who maintain the site gets fixed rather than filed.
If we do not resolve it, you retain every right available to you under the Americans with Disabilities Act and under California law, including the Unruh Civil Rights Act.
Questions about any of this?
Ask us. We will answer in plain language, and if something on this page is unclear we would rather fix the page than explain it twice.
